Opening the Visual Editor

The Visual Editor is where you make changes to your website pages. It shows a live preview of the page alongside an editing panel, so you can see your changes as you make them.

What the Visual Editor Looks Like

When you open a page in the Visual Editor, you will see a split-screen layout. The page preview appears on one side, and the editing panel appears on the other. This lets you see exactly how your changes will look before you publish them.

The Visual Editor has three key areas:

  • Preview Panel — Shows a live rendering of the page as visitors will see it. Changes appear here in real time.
  • Sidebar Panel — The editing panel on the left side of the screen. This is where you find all the fields for the current page, organized into sections.
  • Toolbar — The bar at the top with the Save button, page status, and other controls.

How to Open the Visual Editor

Follow these steps to open any page in the Visual Editor:

  1. 1

From the CloudCannon dashboard, click Pages in the left-hand menu to see the list of all pages on your website.

  2. 2

Find the page you want to edit. You can use the search bar at the top of the list or scroll through the pages. Pages are organized by their URL path.

  3. 3

Click the page name to open it. CloudCannon will automatically open the page in the Visual Editor, showing the live preview alongside the editing panel.

  4. 4

Wait a moment for the preview to load. You will see the page appear exactly as it looks on the live website. The sidebar on the left will show all the editable fields.

Tip

If the page preview takes more than a few seconds to load, try refreshing your browser. The Visual Editor preview loads the full website, so it may take a moment on slower connections.

Two Ways to Edit

Once you have a page open in the Visual Editor, there are two ways to make changes. Most content blocks support both methods, but some fields are only available through one or the other.

Inline Editing

Click directly on text or images in the preview to edit them in place. Yellow outlines show which elements are editable.
